What do you do when you realize you are not feeling as well as you prefer? Is something irritating you? Did some information cause a bit of worry? We want to move toward feeling good again? How to do it? Our cells are so responsive– if we can conjure the FEELING we bring ourselves there. Have you ever talked yourself into something- you start a line of reasoning–even repeat– you keep “trying” it. In your heart you know you are forcing a square peg into a round hole at the moment– it is the THINKING of the thing but not FEELING it. It is so positive when we notice where we actually are. Ok right now I am a bit worried and listing upbeat thoughts that seem forced.

Best course in my view: take your mind off the troubling subject. In our culture we want to take action immediately to solve the problem. Instead, turn to an activity you can count on enjoying. Allow yourself to go into it with enjoyment. We are after getting the FEELING OF PLEASURE flowing again. One student loves to ride horses. I love looking at paintings by great artists or reading jokes. Like the song form the Sound of Music, identify your favorite things. Here are some of mine:

  • art by Matisse, Chagall, Monet
  • admiring flowers
  • walking in nature
  • listening to a good detective audio book
  • talking with a friend
  • listing appreciations.

Each of us learns to sense how we re-balance and return to ease. If I am quite upset, I might need greater distraction for a longer time. I am noticing as I feel easy more of the time I return to it… more quickly.. it’s well… easier to feel easy :). Ahead of time I keep handy some things that are useful distractions for me.

I’m advocating moving to ease first. Changing your focus toward something where its is easy to feel good. And taking a nap counts. 🙂
